Just Rifles Memorial Re-Dedication Ceremony

On Sunday 24th March 2019, Just Rifles officially re-dedicated the Rangers memorial on Chenies Street, WC1, in a moving and well-attended ceremony.

Lead by The Reverend Alan Carr, rector of the Parish of St Giles in the Field, the crowd of over 200 guests included decorated military veterans, local dignitaries, and representatives from the local American Church.

The ceremony was opened by the sound of two buglers from 7 Rifles, before a short display of drill from local ACF cadet forces. General Sir Nick Parker, ex-Commander Land Forces, gave an informative speech detailing the history of the memorial, and explaining the significance it continues to hold to all those who serve and have served in conflict zones.

Following a moving rendition of I Vow To Thee My Country by Soprano Iris Korfker, The Archdeacon of London The Venerable Luke Miller gave the official blessing for the re-dedication of the Rangers Memorial, before leading the crowd in prayer. The Mayor of Camden, Councillor Jenny Headlam-Wells then spoke, before the ceremony was closed by the sounding of the Lone Bugler.

The Rangers memorial was restored by Just Rifles, a London-based military charity that provides support to injured and wounded soldiers and veterans. The charity’s chairman, Bryan Fugler, also gave a speech during the ceremony, highlighting the important role that Just Rifles continues to play in supporting our Armed Forces. Bryan Fugler thanked everyone involved in the restoration particularly the local authority Camden, The War Memorials Trust & Iron Mountain who all contributed towards the restoration of the Monument that can once again be part of the thriving local community & as a lasting tribute to all of The Rangers – now The Rifles community that lost their lives for our freedom
