CHARITY APPEAL
FOR WOUNDED SOLDIERS

Sgt Mark Holloway

At age 27, Mark was on his third tour of Afghanistan. During an operation to stabilize the Nar e Saraj district of Helmand province he was caught in a blast from an IED. He sustained a penetrating fragmentation injury to the right forearm severing the radial artery and severely damaging the tendons and nerves supplying movement to the wrist and hand. Sgt Holloway also sustained a superficial fragmentation injury to the left calf and, due to the proximity of the blast, has also suffered hearing loss.

The permanent damage to his arm is still uncertain at this point, but the muscle on the top of the forearm was destroyed in the blast, affecting grip and rotation of the forearm.

Before being injured Mark spent lots of time in the gym and was a very keen Muay Thai boxer who competed frequently.  Due to the injuries he has sustained he will be unable partake in these activities for a very long time if at all. Being fit and competitive was part of his life for so long, with the bike donated by Just Rifles he is now getting into cycling.
