Chris Howard

In August 2009, Rifleman Chris Howard was on patrol in Sangin, Afghanistan when he was injured in an IED explosion. He was 21. Airlifted to hospital, he knew that three of his friends had been caught in a further bomb explosion and had not survived. Chris had his leg amputated below the knee, had lost fingers and subsequently spent months in recovery. Being medically discharged from military service was tough – it was the only career he had wanted.

Before his injury, Chris had been a dedicated and talented semi-professional footballer. On the orders of a medical officer, Chris undertook coaching in Golf and soon fell in love with the sport. It gave him a new focus.
