Samuel Bassett

Rifleman Samuel Bassett was born in Plymouth, Devon, on 27 September 1989. He completed military training at the Infantry Training Centre in Catterick before joining 4th Battalion The Rifles (4 RIFLES) in Bulford in May 2009. He died in hospital following an improvised explosive device explosion in the area of Sangin, northern Helmand. He was serving as part of 3rd Battalion The Rifles (3 RIFLES) Battle Group. At the time, his platoon were conducting routine patrolling in order to provide reassurance and security to the local population.

Just Rifles were honoured to be able to assist Sam’s father, who now lives in Canada, and his family in visiting the UK for Torpoint Parade (Sam’s home town), and for laying the regimental reef. It was the first time they had been able to return to the UK for Remembrance day since Sam’s passing.
